Psychology
Aims
Psychology is the science of the brain, mind and behaviour; it views human behaviour as the raw data of psychology. Although we cannot observe the mind directly, everything we do, think, feel and say is determined by the functioning of the mind, so psychology uses ‘human behaviour data’ for testing theories about how the mind works. Why do some people fear snakes yet a few think they are cuddly? Psychology looks at questions like these in the study of the human mind and behaviour. It is a science with cutting edge research that has real world applications to issues in everyday life, ranging from things like artificial intelligence to social change.
Psychology combines well with many other different disciplines, including biology, medicine, linguistics, philosophy, literature, sociology, and media.
