The Frances Bardsley careers programme is in place to ensure all students have access to high-quality careers education at all key stages.
By the end of KS3, students will have:
- A better understanding of the range of careers and opportunities at post 16 and post 18
- Better understanding of their strengths and areas for development
- Received appropriate advice and guidance for KS4 options
- Developed employability soft skills such as teamwork, communication, creativity and resilience through school curriculum and extra-curricular activities
- The opportunity to take on positions of responsibility in school, for example Form Captain or Sports Captain. Students will learn vital employability skills, such as teamwork, from these roles
By the end of KS4, students will have:
- Enhanced employability skills
- A personalised careers plan and action points
- Completed one week of work experience, in addition to at least one other work shadowing/workplace experience
- Been given direct contact and access to employers and education providers
- Been provided with various resources to help complete the post 16 application process, including interview preparation
- A positive post 16 destination first choice and back-up choice, with support to manage this transition
- Knowledge of different careers, Labour Market Information and skills shortages
- The opportunity to take on positions of responsibility within school, for example Year 10 Prefect or School Council representative. Students will learn vital employability skills, such as communication, from these roles
By the end of KS5, students will have:
- Enhanced employability skills
- Completed additional work experience/work shadowing
- Knowledge of the different post 18 options available
- Taken part in workshops and sessions to develop careers awareness, wellbeing and positive responses to change
- Been given direct contact and access to employers and education providers
- Been provided with various resources to help prepare for and complete the post 18 transition
- Knowledge of different careers, Labour Market Information and skills shortages
- A positive post 18 destination; be that University, an apprenticeship, job with training, gap year or volunteering
- The opportunity to take on positions of responsibility within school, such as Head Girl or Head of House. Students will learn vital employability skills, such as leadership, from these roles
Students take part in a wide range of careers focused activities, such as work experience, careers fairs, 16+ day and 18+ week and more throughout their time at the school. From time to time there may be additional opportunities that arise on an ad hoc basis, which will be communicated with parents/carers.
How can you support your child?
Having conversations about careers, education, what is learnt in school and even talking about your own career pathway are all good ways of supporting your child. You can further support your child by encouraging them to access careers information online, by taking part in careers events in school, and attending events outside of school, such as the Havering RPA, and other open events for sixth form, colleges or apprenticeships.
