Staff Careers Page
Promoting a career development culture is an essential part of the mission and ethos of the school, and ties in with the whole school vision for learning. It is important to remember that every teacher is a teacher of careers. We aim to support the aspirations of all our learners and to ensure that they gain the understanding, skills and experience they need to make progress and succeed in learning and work. We believe that effective careers education and guidance not only contributes to the wellbeing of individuals but also to the wellbeing of their families, the communities to which they belong, wider society, businesses and the economy. The CEIAG programme is designed to raise aspirations, promote equality of opportunity and celebrate diversity.
The Frances Bardsley Academy careers programme aims to:
- Encourage students to be ambitious and aspirational
- Ensure students are prepared for the next steps in their education or career
- Help students understand the changing world of work and importance of developing transferable skills
- Support positive transitions post 16 and post 18
- Support inclusion, challenge stereotypes and promote equality of opportunity
- To meet statutory and inspection requirements, and work in line with the eight Gatsby Benchmarks
Evaluating progress:
To help the school evaluate the careers provision, the Compass report is carried out termly through the Careers and Enterprise Company. If you would like to see a copy of the latest Compass report, please contact R Woods who can share this information with you.

‘My name is Ellie and I joined FBA in 2013 as a year 7 student, and finished my time at the academy in 2020 following almost 2 years at the sixth form. I always considered myself lucky as I always knew the field of work I wanted to go into when I grew up, which was healthcare. For my chosen GCSE subjects, I studied Health and Social Care, Child Development, and Geography, alongside all the core subjects. At Sixth Form I studied the Level 3 BTEC Health and Social Care Extended Diploma and finished the course with Distinction* Distinction* Distinction.
I was also very lucky that I knew I didn’t want to become a doctor, midwife, or nurse, and that I didn’t want to go into University. This meant that the best and most sensible option for me was to begin an apprenticeship once I left sixth form. My school journey ended very suddenly on a random Friday in March due to the COVID pandemic, however this did not stop me from searching everyday for an apprenticeship or job in the line of work I was interested in, and 10 months later I found myself signing a contract for a PR and Communications Apprenticeship with Oxford Imperial College and working in a Pharmaceutical and Biotech agency.
I started my apprenticeship in January 2021 and have now signed a full time contract with my employing agency, as of February 2022. I love my job so much and am so excited for my future as a full time employee with my company. I hope that in the future I can continue to make the world a healthier place with my work, challenge myself, build confidence, and have fun whilst doing it!
I will be forever thankful for my time at FBA!’
